.223/5.56 Nato

I just started loading for the .223 and I am trying out a few powders and bullets to see how well one works in my Del-Ton AR 15.

Load 25.0g of Varget powder, PMC once fired brass, 55g FMJ Remington bullets and CCI Small Rifle Primers.

I will report my finding on the load on Friday.

I also have Benchmark that I am going to try out as well. I ordered 1k of once fired military brass and 2k of 62g Ball M855 FMJBT spitzer that I will be giving a go as well.

I have heard that varget is a dirty powder. Is that true? If it is then you should try aa2230 or TAC. I have used both with great results.

I have not used enough of it to really say it's "dirty". I just finished loading up the first pound so once I shoot this and move on to the Benchmark I will see how it looks?

You may want to try IMR 8208 XBR powder for your 223s. Clean and fast, so far I used it with Hornady 60 grain A-Max s and had excelent results. Slight over pressure signs on the primers at 23 grains, but I set the OAL to 2.200 (works better in my AR). Have backed off to 22.8 grains of powder. Was thinking of using it for the 62 grain pulled mil bullets we just bought. Any thoughts would be appreciated if you have reloaded for that bullet yet.
